Garth Newman

Garth is a clinical psychologist with years of experience working with children, adolescents and their families at the Child and Family Unit of Lentegeur Hospital. Prior to joining Brackenfell Psychology, one of the few full-service mental health providers in the Northern Suburbs, his work within the state psychiatric setting provided him with exposure to a wide range of psychiatric and psychological disorders. With a special interest in working with children and families, Garth has undergone additional training in the family and systems theory, which enables him to work effectively with both families and couples (couple’s counselling). He also provides both short-term and long-term (in-depth) psychotherapy for adolescents and adults, as well as play therapy for younger children.

Johan van Rooyen

Johan is a clinical psychologist whose main areas of interest are child and adolescent psychotherapy, both short term and long term. His work at the Child and Family Unit at Lentegeur Hospital has fostered his ability connect with children and adolescents and provide therapeutic spaces where they feel safe. Johan also provides psychotherapy for adults for a wide variety of difficulties ranging from day-to-day stresses to mood disorders and other psychiatric conditions. Johan also has experience in organisational psychology, having worked for an employee wellness company for 8 years. He enjoys working strategically with groups or individuals within organisations.
Johan works in a client-centered, strategic and eclectic way; allowing individuals to work through the difficulties which are affecting their relationships or compromising their life satisfaction.
